Marietta Community Foundation
Founded in 1974, the Marietta Community Foundation supports philanthropy and the efforts of citizens to improve natural, human and civic resources.
Area Served: This foundation gives primarily in the Marietta area, making grants to organizations in Washington County, Ohio and Wood County, West Virginia.
Emphasis: The Marietta Community Foundation manages many funds, some of which focus on specific issues or organizations. In general, this foundation provides grants to support a wide range of projects of benefit to the community and are particularly interested in funding projects that:
Build on local community strengths and assets.
Stimulate support from other funding sources.
Respond creatively to community problems.
Serve a broad segment of the community.
Expand access and opportunities for people from low-income and underserved communities.
Address underlying causes rather than symptoms.
Increase cooperation and coordination among program providers without duplicating services.
Improve organization self-sufficiency and efficiency.
Initiate efforts that will continue to grow in their effectiveness.
Develop our sense of this community as a special place.
Have strong board and staff or volunteer leadership.
Involve a cross-section of people in project planning.
Grant Information: In 2007, the Marietta Community Foundation gave out 287 grants totaling nearly $500,000. A list of recently funded projects is available on the Marietta Community Foundation website. Download a copy of the annual report for the most recent information.
Application Information: Visit the foundation website to learn more about their grant guidelines and to download grant application. Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to informally discuss their idea with a foundation representative before submitting a completed application. Applications are reviewed three times each year. Current deadlines are February 7, June 7 and October 7, but please confirm these dates with the Foundation prior to applying.
